I believe this is a double crested basilisk, a type of lizard common to Costa Rica. They hang around water, which is where I found this one, in Cahuita National Park, right on the Caribbean coast. They are often called Jesus Christ lizards because they have the ability to run across the top of water for short distances. This one probably couldn't go too far as he was a big one, close to two feet long.
I taught myself film photography in an environment that was both endlessly inspiring and frustratingly difficult: the high Andes of Ecuador, where vivid colors and fascinating subject were regularly swallowed up by the harsh contrast of strong sunlight. Upon returning to the States I had to limit my photographic work for nearly 20 years. Finally, with more free time available and relocation to the stunning foothills of Colorado, photography has reclaimed my passion. I hope some of these images bring you a fraction of the enjoyment and inspiration I experienced capturing them.

Fantastic image! I love lizards and dinosaurs and these guys truly remind me of our prehistoric "pals"!
