Rufous hummingbirds are bullies of Colorado hummingbirds. They perch close to feeders and chase away other types of hummers. This little bird kept going back to the same limb and didn't mind that I set up my camera close by to get a close up when he returned.
I taught myself film photography in an environment that was both endlessly inspiring and frustratingly difficult: the high Andes of Ecuador, where vivid colors and fascinating subject were regularly swallowed up by the harsh contrast of strong sunlight. Upon returning to the States I had to limit my photographic work for nearly 20 years. Finally, with more free time available and relocation to the stunning foothills of Colorado, photography has reclaimed my passion. I hope some of these images bring you a fraction of the enjoyment and inspiration I experienced capturing them.
