Amazing detail and capture. These birds define the word, "skittish." Your beautiful and identified bird image has been featured by Wild Birds Of The World, a nature photography group. L/F

Artist's Description

I saw this banded kingfisher while on an early morning walk around Bingham Lake in Parker, Colorado. It was perched on a branch hanging over the lake, no doubt looking for a fish to catch. Unfortunately, it didn't find the fishing productive and eventually flew off to try another location.

About Lowell Monke

Lowell Monke

I taught myself film photography in an environment that was both endlessly inspiring and frustratingly difficult: the high Andes of Ecuador, where vivid colors and fascinating subject were regularly swallowed up by the harsh contrast of strong sunlight. Upon returning to the States I had to limit my photographic work for nearly 20 years. Finally, with more free time available and relocation to the stunning foothills of Colorado, photography has reclaimed my passion. I hope some of these images bring you a fraction of the enjoyment and inspiration I experienced capturing them.
