An American bald eagle has a naturally fierce demeanor. This beautiful raptor actually was not particularly upset. He was just responding to his caretaker's signal. This bird had been injured and is one of several birds who seem quite content to contribute to an educational program called Hawk Quest. I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to spend some time taking closeup pictures of this fabulous bird.
I taught myself film photography in an environment that was both endlessly inspiring and frustratingly difficult: the high Andes of Ecuador, where vivid colors and fascinating subject were regularly swallowed up by the harsh contrast of strong sunlight. Upon returning to the States I had to limit my photographic work for nearly 20 years. Finally, with more free time available and relocation to the stunning foothills of Colorado, photography has reclaimed my passion. I hope some of these images bring you a fraction of the enjoyment and inspiration I experienced capturing them.
