Artist's Description
I came across this western rattlesnake as I was walking along the road in Waterton Canyon just outside of Denver, Colorado. It was 50 degrees and the snake was very sluggish, thank goodness. I had a long lens and took this picture from about 30 feet away, far enough that this rattler never felt threatened enough to rattle.
About Lowell Monke
I taught myself film photography in an environment that was both endlessly inspiring and frustratingly difficult: the high Andes of Ecuador, where vivid colors and fascinating subject were regularly swallowed up by the harsh contrast of strong sunlight. Upon returning to the States I had to limit my photographic work for nearly 20 years. Finally, with more free time available and relocation to the stunning foothills of Colorado, photography has reclaimed my passion. I hope some of these images bring you a fraction of the enjoyment and inspiration I experienced capturing them.
