My gosh, this is a great photo. I've never seen a heron in such busy water. The colors of the bird and the water are complementary. Truly amazing image.

Lowell Monke replied:

Thanks, Mary. I've been to that stream a hundred times and never seen another heron at that spot before or since.

About Lowell Monke

Lowell Monke

I taught myself film photography in an environment that was both endlessly inspiring and frustratingly difficult: the high Andes of Ecuador, where vivid colors and fascinating subject were regularly swallowed up by the harsh contrast of strong sunlight. Upon returning to the States I had to limit my photographic work for nearly 20 years. Finally, with more free time available and relocation to the stunning foothills of Colorado, photography has reclaimed my passion. I hope some of these images bring you a fraction of the enjoyment and inspiration I experienced capturing them.
