Description
Northern Flickers are a type of woodpecker that are very common in the foothills of Colorado. They can co lots of damage to a house and I wasn't very appreciative of them when I was battling them at my previous home. They don't seem so interested in pounding holes in stucco so I have been more receptive to their beauty - especially when they fly. Their wings almost glow in the sunlight. This is one of the few pictures I've been able to get that approximates that golden glow.

Remarkable image, Lowell! And it is a Yellow-shafted version too! My favorite! Thank you for submitting this beautifully captured and identified bird image which has been featured on the homepage of the group, Wild Birds Of The World - A Nature Photography Group - L/F

Thanks, William. And thanks for the more detailed identification. I wish I had your depth of knowledge of birds.
