This photo took some work, as dragonflies are hard to follow with a camera, much less get a crisp image of one in flight. This one happened to hover for an extra long time in front of me and I was able to lock onto him with a nice soft background behind.
I taught myself film photography in an environment that was both endlessly inspiring and frustratingly difficult: the high Andes of Ecuador, where vivid colors and fascinating subject were regularly swallowed up by the harsh contrast of strong sunlight. Upon returning to the States I had to limit my photographic work for nearly 20 years. Finally, with more free time available and relocation to the stunning foothills of Colorado, photography has reclaimed my passion. I hope some of these images bring you a fraction of the enjoyment and inspiration I experienced capturing them.
