Broadtail hummingbirds are really feeding hard right now as they prepare for the long journey south. They like snapdragons, and while they prefer reddish colored flowers, they aren't too choosy right now. I particularly like this shot because I was able to nearly get the wings stopped.
I taught myself film photography in an environment that was both endlessly inspiring and frustratingly difficult: the high Andes of Ecuador, where vivid colors and fascinating subject were regularly swallowed up by the harsh contrast of strong sunlight. Upon returning to the States I had to limit my photographic work for nearly 20 years. Finally, with more free time available and relocation to the stunning foothills of Colorado, photography has reclaimed my passion. I hope some of these images bring you a fraction of the enjoyment and inspiration I experienced capturing them.
