Blue Heron Catching a Fish Kids T-Shirt

This great blue heron stood very still for almost a minute before striking underwater and coming up with a very large fish - a bass no less - which it proceeded to carry to the bank of the lake. Once at the edge, the heron got the fish turned on end and gulped it down with no problem. At one point the bird dropped the fish but quickly impaled it with its beak - the end of the beak actually coming through the other side. Gruesome but fascinating.

I taught myself film photography in an environment that was both endlessly inspiring and frustratingly difficult: the high Andes of Ecuador, where vivid colors and fascinating subject were regularly swallowed up by the harsh contrast of strong sunlight. Upon returning to the States I had to limit my photographic work for nearly 20 years. Finally, with more free time available and relocation to the stunning foothills of Colorado, photography has reclaimed my passion. I hope some of these images bring you a fraction of the enjoyment and inspiration I experienced capturing them.
